There’s a lot of conflicting information out there about the costs and benefits of drinking coffee. In moderation, it can help us process sugar, improve our heart health, and protect our livers. But after your fourth cup, it’s more likely to cause headaches, irritability, and everyone’s favorite: insomnia.
Of course, the fact of the matter is that most of us are willing to drink coffee no matter the potential side effects. Nothing against herbal tea, but it doesn’t exactly pack the necessary afternoon punch. Driving while drowsy is as dangerous as driving drunk, so if a cup of coffee will shield me like a pumpkin spice guardrail, count me in.
One thing I love about La Grange is the number of excellent coffee shops it offers. Mel Robbins has a great segment called the “Coffee Shop Friendship Theory” where she details the different types of shops and how to make friends at each one. I’ve never tried it, but I can pretty much guarantee that her method would work swimmingly around here.
La Grange Coffee Roasters is one of my favorite spots for a traditional coffee house experience. Located in one of our historic downtown buildings, they’re known for roasting their own beans and hosting musicians. It’s always a joy to support a small family business, but when the staff is friendly and the drinks are out of this world, it’s an extra-special treat.
Another local favorite is The Coffeehouse & Cafe, which is La Grange’s newest spot for a hot cup o’ joe. It’s right next to Southeast Christian Church and serves food in addition to drinks, making it the perfect location to meet with your Bible study group or book club. Fair warning though: The couches in there are so comfortable that you might need an espresso to stay awake.
For a unique drive-through experience, don’t miss Revival Coffee Company. It’s located in a trailer, so there’s minimal seating (i.e., one table), but they have the most creative drinks of any shop in town and are always experimenting with new flavors. When a latte just won’t cut it, I go to Revival.
As much as I love my morning coffee, these shops are so much more than the drinks they serve. As Mel Robbins explains on her podcast, they’re also ideal places to meet new people and get to know the La Grange community. Coffee is something we all have in common, so why not leverage it?
Since you’re probably wondering, I want to say that I wasn’t paid to write any of this. I’m just a local realtor who loves coffee and, more importantly, my people. But like, if anyone from La Grange Coffee Roasters, The Coffeehouse, or Revival is reading this, reach out! Maybe we can trade marketing for pumpkin spice.
